Pilgrimage Church Maria Alm

One of the doubtlessly most beautiful Marian shrines of the rural Pinzgau region is the pilgrimage church of Maria Alm. Her simple but impressive appearance with the 76 metre high church steeple are indicators for the construction in the late Gothic era. Ongoing refurbishments keep the landmark of Maria Alm in good condition so that this massive building may yet impress further visitors.

Mozart and festival city Salzburg

Harmoniously embedded between the two city hills Mönchsberg and Kapuzinerberg, the native city of Mozart presents itself as a small scale metropolis. The silhouette of the cathedral, fortress Hohensalzburg and numerous church steeples allows wonderful images and makes Salzburg a cultural Hot Spot. The castle Hellbrunn with its trick fountains and zoo, the House of Nature, the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace and the Stiegl brewery are popular attractions worth an excursion.

National park centre Mittersill

Saltmine Hallein

Open all year, the salt mines in Hallein await you where, as the name itself reveals, salt is in the main focus of the guided tour. The so-called "white gold" was already mined by the Celts more than 2500 years ago, as they noticed the worth of the precious mountain resource. The state of Salzburg has ever since been a rich region and also the name "Salzburg" is due to the high salt occurence. In the eldest exhibition mine in the entire world, a treasure hunt on tracks of the miners is guaranteed - walk through narrow passages, speed up on the slides and cross a real subterrestrial salt lake!

Krimml waterfalls & WaterWonderWorld Krimml

Astonishing images will take your breath away at the Krimml Waterfalls! The 380 metre high, steep cascades are counted to the most popular excursion destinations of Austria. The highest waterfalls of Europe impress with marvellous nature spectacles and from an artificially built hiking track the forces of Nature can be admired. The starting point of this unhurried 1 1/2 hours long hike are the WaterWorlds in Krimml - a unique theme park with numerous informative and entertaning stations, where one can experience everything about the element water.

Großglockner Hochalpenstraße

In the very heart of the national park Hohe Tauern, the probably best-known high alpine road with its numerous curves and bends leads its way across Austria's highest mountain - the Großglockner. Once the highest point of the street on an altitude of 2504 metres is reached, the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße provides unique views over valleys, lakes, blooming meadows and summits covered in snow. The famous street looks back on a long history: Already more than 2 milleniums B.C. the mountain was crossed while in 1930 the construction of a passable street started. Nowadays the high alpine road with the Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Höhe is to be assessed one of Austria's most popular attractions.

Nature park Weißbach

The nature park Weißbach is a nature conservation programme concentrating on a sustainable development of an majestically beautiful landscape. Enjoy nature spectables and adventures on one of the 46 km long hiking routes and theme trails. Numerous information points explain topics such as alpine farming, nature parks, wood industry and many other interesting facts to visitors. The nature park is the perfect place to calm down and relax before experiencing new adventures in untouched nature. Worked up diverse and interestingly, sustainable use of natural resources and the environment are being connected at the nature park.

Königssee

Situated in the southeasternmost town of Germany, the lake Königssee, which often is even described as the most beautiful lake in the entire country, is to be found. As Maria Alm with its massive limestone alps, the so-called Steinerne Meer, is located within the Berchtesgaden alps, a hiking tour to the pilgrimage church St. Bartholomä and the Königssee presents itself as a challenging trip. Although the march to the town Schönau is a demanding hike, the fascinating images of the church, the surrounding mountains and crystal-clear lake compensate for the effort. Every year in August, the Maria Alm pilgrimage takes place. Several hundred people make their way through the mountainous region to the Königssee, where a festival and a mass awaits them cordially. A great tip for hikers with great endurance & stamina!

Berchtesgaden

The market community Berchtesgaden in Bavaria is well-known as a popular destination for excursions starting in Maria Alm, not least due to Maria Alm's proximity to the Königssee. Especially interesting spots in Berchtesgaden are the Kehlsteinhaus at the Obersalzberg as well as the documentary Obersalzberg, where historic impressions about World War II are conveyed. Also the salt mine in Berchtesgaden is wort a visit! Further, the region is perfectly suited for hiking tours, for example up the Watzmann or one of the several other summits of the Berchtesgaden Alps!

Giant ice world Werfen

In Werfen you will surely get dragged into the spell of the fascinating ice caves, where the icy palais can be admired right inside the mountain. The average temperatures in the cave is about 0° Celsius, no matter whether it's a sunny summerday or a freezing winterday. On a hot day, the cold cave is surely one of the most popular attractions, as an escape from the heat is guaranteed at the giant ice world!

High mountain dams in Kaprun

At an altitude of approximately 2000 metres, the two high mountain dams "Mooserboden" and "Wasserfallboden" are situated. Embedded impressively between the soft grass mountains and the rugged rocks of the Hohen Tauern, this excursion destination ensures breathtaking panoramic views in great atmosphere! Those who do not want to walk all the way up can enjoy the comfortable transport by bus or the largest inclined elevator of Europe. Enjoy the unique turquoise colour of the reservoirs, which actually serve for the generation of electric power. Active travellers with great endurance may also enjoy the beauty of the artificially built reservoirs and the surrounding valleys from up the mountain!

Trick fountains & castle Hellbrunn

The pleasure palace with its pittoresque gardens and the trick fountain area is rated to be a true paradise on the outskirts of Salzburg. Between 1612 and 1615, the Royal Archbishop Markus Sittikus had the palace built as a summer residence for music, dance and hunting. As he loved mucking around with his friends, the Archbishop also built a park including trick fountains which are still being used today. The beautifully arranged gardens, the water fountains and the castle itself are very popular attractions in the city of Salzburg - worth a visit during your stay in Maria Alm!
